Limited Edition Prints

  • “Limited Edition” means that prints of a particular image are sold only in an artist-specified limited quantity release. Once all prints in the limited edition are sold, the artist retires that image and no further prints are ever made. This can create scarcity and exclusivity for that particular limited edition, potentially creating value for collectors.

    In Limited Editions, the artist will sometimes increase the price of the images as the limited edition sells out, so earlier prints of the limited edition are sometimes less expensive than later prints in the same limited edition.

    Once the Limited Edition is sold out, that print will no longer be available for purchase from the artist. However, the image may still be used by the artist in digital and printed media including books, magazines and videos as well as press, marketing and other promotional materials.

  • Limited Edition Prints are typically more expensive than other types of prints because special acid-free materials are used to prevent fading and yellowing of the print over time.

    Our Limited Edition Prints are:

    1. printed on premium Hahnemühle papers and framed using archival, museum-grade materials to maximize longevity;

    2. sold only in limited quantities after which the image is retired by the artist with no further prints being made of that image;

    3. signed by hand by the artist;

    4. numbered to identify which image it is in the limited edition i.e “4/10”;

    5. sold with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting that the image is in fact an authentic Limited Edition Print made by the artist.

  • Unless otherwise noted on the specific Product page for a particular image, the edition size of Limited Editions sold on this site is 25 images of any size. Each Limited Edition will also include two (2) Artist Proofs, allowing the artist the ability to ensure the quality of the prints sold to clients.

    As the artist sells through any given Limited Edition, he reserves the right to increase the prices for the images. This means that prints in the Limited Edition purchased earlier in the offering might be less expensive than prints sold later in the offering.

  • The papers we use for printing vary in their surface finish and texture to bring out the best of the unique characteristics of each particular image in question. All papers we use are fibre-based and archival-quality made by industry leader Hahnemühle. These same papers are used by leading galleries and museums worldwide.

    Specifically, the Hahnemühle papers we use most frequestly are (1) Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Satin high gloss 325 gsm and (2) Hahnemühle Photo Rag matte 308 gsm. The aesthetics of the particular image will dictate which particular Hahnemühle paper we use.

  • Our printing process utilizes UltraChrome® K3 acid-free pigment-based inks in a giclée inkjet process.

  • For mounting, we use an archival and acid-free process to dry mount the prints to Artcare Restore Archival Foam board with a low-heat-activated, acid-free adhesive. This process keeps art smooth and secure. This is a reversible process but does require a machine for removal.

  • We use a 4-ply acid-free 2” wide Bright White mat.

  • For the frame, we use a classic Gallery Black hardwood frame made in the USA. It is 0.75” wide on the face and 1.25” deep.

    Covering the print for protection, we use acrylic plexiglass rather than glass. UV-filtering acrylic has become the industry standard among art sellers and galleries. Acrylic is lighter than glass, scratch-resistant and shatter-resistant. It also provides more UV protection and less glare than glass.

    Our Standard Acrylic filters 85% of UV rays. This is our default acrylic.

    As a custom upgrade, we can provide (at an upcharge) Tru Vue Optium Museum-Quality Acrylic which is the highest standard available - anti-reflective, anti-static, scratch-resistant and 99% UV filtering.

    The back of the frame is covered with a backing board or a heavy brown paper dust cover, thereby entirely sealing the artwork from dust and the elements.

  • The artist will sign your print and write the edition number by hand in the bottom right corner of the image. The pen used for this will be a Sharpie extra fine pen which applies an oil-based silver metallic paint.

  • The artist will send you, separate from delivery of the artwork, a Certificate of Authenticity (“COA”). The COA provides proof that the artwork you have purchased is an authentic original. The embossed COA will be hand signed by the artist and will identify the particular artwork by noting the image size, edition number and name of the artwork. It is recommended that this COA be kept in a safe place away from the artwork. The COA may be required if you wish to insure your art or make a claim.
